Man three kids is hard. I am so behind but it's better late than never.
So Tuesday October 23rd I had a check-up. I was 37 weeks and 1 day. My midwife checked my cervix and I was at 2 cm and 75 % effaced already. She said you might make it to your next appt but I don't think you'll make it to your actual due date. That's what I wanted to hear. But Seth was leaving the next day until Sunday so I was planning on putting myself on bed rest so I wouldn't be having this baby without his daddy here.
So I went home played with the kids and then Seth and I decided to go to the temple since it would probably be the last time for a while. While in the temple I felt very sure that I would be having this baby in the very near future I just didn't know it was sooner then I thought. After the temple we went and picked up the kids from Seth's parents house and as we were putting the kids in the car I said to Jill, "you know if this baby is like Porter I'll be having him tomorrow but I doubt it'll happen." We went home put the kids to bed and then I got on the treadmill and walked while Seth watched a show because that's what I always did.
Later we went to bed and around 2:30 I woke up because I had to go to the bathroom. I remember thinking I wish I was waking up to have a baby. I climbed back in bed and attempted to fall asleep but started getting contractions. I waited for a while thinking they'd go away but they didn't so I went downstairs without waking Seth up and timed my contractions. They were coming about every 6 mins and then they started coming every 4 mins and they were getting stronger. I was pretty sure I was in active labor but wanted to wait as long as I could before calling my midwife and waking up Seth. At about 4:30 am I went and woke Seth up said I was pretty sure I was in labor and I was going to call my midwife. I called her and she said to go ahead and head down to the hospital. We called Seth's parents. It took them about 30 mins to get to our house. I got a blessing from Seth and Skip and off to the hospital we went.
We got checked in which took way to long considering the fact that I was already registered. Got into a room and got in the gown around 6am. The nurse checked me and I was at 5cm. I labored some more still not asking for an epidural but I was in tons of pain. I had to go number 2 so I unhooked myself and went into the bathroom. The nurse came running in to make sure everything was ok. I was fine just going to the bathroom. She said are you sure your going to the bathroom VHS yes sure you want to look in the toilet. The pain was awful I said ok I need an epidural now. She checked me again and I was 7 cm. I was moving fast. Finally around 7 am I got my epidural. My wife wife got to the hospital at 8 am. She checked me and I was fully dilated. But she wanted me to labor down for a bit. Finally it was time to push and with the first contraction Cannon was out and Seth got to catch him.
Seth said, "he looks just like Porter." Cannon was barely making any sound so the nurse took him under the lamps just to make sure he was ok. He was fine just very quiet. They got him all cleaned off and weighed and measured. He was mu smallest baby. 5lbs 11 oz and 21 in long. They bundled him up and finally he was in my arms. He was beautiful.
5 mins later the baby nurse came in to check him. He was very cold they couldn't even get a reading to show up so she had to take him for a couple hours until his temperature got warmer.
Finally Cannon was in my arms. I had three kids I couldn't believe it. Porter and Kenley came to meet their brother. They were so excited. That was such a touching moment when they met and got to hold their brother for the first time. We were now a family of five.
